The MBA Committee at all the top B-Schools evaluates the applications very objectively. They get 1000s of applications that have multiple SOPs/essays. It is practically impossible for them to spend a lot of time on each application. So they have a mechanism to score each application on different parameters such as, leadership, accomplishments, team work and other parameters that they expect a future business leader to portray.
How can you make your application get the maximum points and eventually get shortlisted? Simple, by writing your SOPs/essays in a very structured manner, ensuring you tick mark all the parameters they are looking for. Here's a straightforward actionable:
In each SOP, try to subtly mention a certain achievement or strength, while simultaneously answering the question asked.
Try to keep all SOPs mutually exclusive. Example: do not repeat a strength that you have mentioned in one SOP, in the other.
Good storytelling will make the admission committee stay at your application slightly longer. Do it, for instance use anecdotes while answering every question.
If you are able to use these simple tips, you will definitely be able to get your dream B-School. If you don't feel too confident, you can always take the assistance of MBA Compass.
